I planned my morning stroll in Avenida Presidente Masaryk in Polanco around 10am one Sunday morning, hoping to take photos before the stores open at 11. It was deserted, quiet and the only bustle in the stretch of luxury shops in this world-famous avenue is coming from the high-end restaurants serving brunch.

One of the nice things about this area is that chic restaurants equal the number of luxury stores. Eat, if shopping will break the wallet, or shop, if eating might add a dress size.

Being there early Sunday morning made me wonder, how busy can it really get at its peak hour, given the current state of the global economy and the shift in the shopping culture of the millennial generation (i.e., Amazon/online shopping)? I noticed that there are hardly any vacant spaces unlike say, Madison Avenue in NYC, and as I walked away from the stores en route to El Palacio de Hierro, workers were indeed, looking hurried in the construction of a 3-story Cartier store on the corner of Masaryk and Moliere.

Looks like things are not slowing down in Polanco.

EL PALACIO DE HIERRO

Off the path and a 5 minute walk from tip of the concentration of luxury shops on Avenida Masaryk, is the newly renovated mall, El Palacio de Hierro on Avenida Moliere. This store in Polanco is also known as "El Palacio de los Palacios," being the flagship store, and the most recent renovation boasts of high-tech and luxury amenities and the presence of mostly all the luxury brands you can think of.
